The original KeyStep found a home on countless desks for one simple reason: it bridged everything without fuss. Compact, connected to anything (Eurorack, DAW, vintage gear), and was really straightforward to use. The mk2 keeps that same idea — 32 velocity-sensitive keys, four CV outputs, USB-C/MIDI/sync connectivity — but sharpens everything that made it great. You get an OLED screen now, direct hardware editing via clickable encoder, and a collection of generative tools that transform quick ideas into full sequences without reaching for a computer.
The refresh lives in the sequencing and transformation layers. The polyphonic step sequencer supports unquantized recording and pattern chaining for building tracks on the fly. A 16-mode arpeggiator with nine generative patterns keeps things moving beyond standard cycles. The Mutate button reshapes sequences in real time — melodically or rhythmically — with a single press. Scale and Chord modes are also present. Spice and Dice controls add randomness and layering without interrupting playback. It’s the same accessibility that made the original so great, but now with more creative depth underneath!
Still small, still connects everywhere, and now even easier to sculpt ideas directly from the hardware — all at a really affordable price!
