Bastl Instruments Basil is a flexible digital delay in stereo deliciously “prepared” for the in-house Pizza platform.

Bastl goes into Space! With Basil you can create both clean delays and choppy lo-fi tonality. The Space section invites bold experimentation and can recreate a wide variety of modulation effects such as chorus, vibrato, flanger, pitch shifter, reverb and stereo widener. Basil is therefore equally suited to crystal clear delays, ambient washes a la Shimmer or Blackhole, blended textures or distorted drones. With V/Oct input, delay finetuning and filter in the feedback path, it can also become part of a Karplus Strong synthesizer voice.
Delay time can be locked via the sync jack, plus there are other options for finetuning, stereo spread, and cross-feedback and ping-pong functionality.
Sound exploration continues in the “Space Section”; the Blur function blurs the delay either directly or in the feedback path, providing experimental reverb textures.
A multimode filter and tap control can be used to further manipulate the delay plume. In the Speed section, the buffer size can be adjusted, which creates characterful downsampling and octave jumps for longer delay times. If this is not desired, an anti-aliasing lowpass filter provides more sedate tonalities. The Freeze function transforms the delay buffer as a (read-only) sample loop a la AMS, which can be synchronized and combined with the other modifications The module is part of Bastl’s Pizza platform, which allows for straightforward firmware replacement and quickly gives the module a completely different functionality-“Spaceman, I always wanted you to go into space man!”
