Ricochet by Eowave is a compact, completely analog module with four envelope generators, four VCAs and a noise source.
The four decay envelopes can be triggered individually, e.g. to shape the amplitude of four sounds using the built-in VCAs. Ricochet is multi-faceted when it comes to possible applications and capabilities.
Since it already has its own noise source, the module can immediately be used as a hi-hat or even a clap module. The clap sound is easy to achieve, as the end of one envelope can trigger the next. But you can also adjust the point at which the next envelope should be triggered – it doesn’t have to be the end of the previous envelope. A trimmer on the front panel can be used to set the threshold for triggering the subsequent envelopes.
Each VCA has a gain control that can be used to achieve subtle saturation. All VCAs and envelope generators have individual outputs, and there are sum outputs for both. The length of the decay envelopes can be modulated individually by control voltages.
Ricochet is great for shaping percussive sounds of all kinds, the envelopes are shaped to be ideally suited for this task. Use the built-in noise generator or, for example, send a sine wave to one of the VCA inputs and use an envelope output on your VCO’s FM input as a pitch envelope to shape powerful bass drum sounds. There are endless possibilities for creating drum sounds (but not only drum sounds).
