Toros: A Three-operator phase-modulation oscillator for Drone Music
Toros Iteritas Alia reimagines FM synthesis with a three-operator design that strips away the common complexity usually associated with it. Its direct interface lets you focus on creating massive drones and evolving textures.
The Blendex system gives you control over how each oscillator interacts – either modulating the next one in line or going straight to the output. Shape your sound with frequency ranges spanning from minor thirds to wide two-octave sweeps. Every parameter responds to CV control, letting you smoothly transition between rumbling sub-bass, clear tones, and noise.
While it excels at endless, shifting drones, Toros is equally capable of piercing metallic timbres. It’s phase modulation without the headaches, delivering raw sonic power through an easy-to-grasp interface.
Features:
- Three phase-modulation operators with unique routing algorithms (Chill, Buzz, Chaos)
- Blendex controls for seamless mixing between direct and modulated signals
- Three distinct algorithms for varied tonal possibilities
- Selectable frequency ranges for precise or dramatic pitch control
- Full CV control over all parameters
- Additional sawtooth output at fundamental frequency
- Octave jump function via button or gate input
- Fine pitch control with semitone stepping via push encoder
- Optimized for drone and experimental sound design
Note: Like other modules by Noise Engineering from the Versio, Alia and Legio series, these are digital units whose functions can be changed by swapping the firmware — have a look a look at the [Platforms](https://noiseengineering.us/pages/platforms/) section of their website to learn more!
