Syntonie’s Détail brings classic video filter design into the modern video synthesis toolkit. This dual-personality module functions as both a softener and enhancer, giving you precise control over how your video signals appear.

Détail handles a wide range of formats automatically, from standard definition composite signals (PAL/NTSC) to HD component video up to 1080p30. This format flexibility makes it particularly valuable when working across different video standards or incorporating varied source material into your projects.

Détail operates around a lowpass/highpass filter with three primary controls: Frequency sets the cutoff point from 1MHz to 10MHz, Resonance introduces feedback paths into the filter, and Dry/Wet blends the processed signal with your original input. Each of the three main parameters include a cv-input plus an attenuverter.

There are two distinct operational modes. The Sharp setting (highpass) enhances edge details and fine textures, while the Blur mode (lowpass) progressively softens the image as you lower the cutoff frequency. With negative resonance in Sharp mode, you’ll get striking edge feedback effects. In Blur mode, negative resonance creates ethereal ghosting where portions of the image fade while others develop something more akin luminous halos.

The Chroma Filter switch lets you isolate processing to just the luminance information or work with the entire signal. When processing the full composite signal with this switch off, Sharp mode can function as a hue booster when the filter cutoff approaches the subcarrier frequency. In Component video, you might prefer leaving the Chroma Filter off to maintain full frequency response in HD sources.

Beyond filtering, Détail includes two 1V minijack outputs that expand its utility: Pre-filter output for luma-based modulation and Post-filter output for creating feedback paths when patched to CV inputs. The rear panel’s RCA Sync output integrates smoothly with other sync-compatible equipment.
