Continuing their journey through the Eastern Bloc and Ex-Yugoslavia, next in line is Ustka – a small spa town in northern Poland. Or rather, in the case of Xaoc Devices – a humble passive expander module for the Ostrawa stereo mixing console.
The Ustka module is a no-frills kind of passive expander designed to enhance the capabilities of the Ostrawa stereo mixer. It provides direct access to four pairs of stereo signals before they are mixed into the final output. One of the main uses for it is to interface with other external multichannel devices, be it your audio interface or a hardware multitrack recorder.
Being passive obviously means that Ustka does not require a power supply. It connects to Ostrawa via a short ribbon cable, making most form of noise and interference come to a grinding halt – aka the blissful moment of true silence. To add that, you can select between full modular signal levels and attenuated line levels, allowing compatibility with different forms of recording equipment.
Own the Ostrawa? Need more outputs? = No-brainer.
