The contemporary version of a true Eurorack classic from Make Noise: The DXG is a dual lowpass gate in stereo and without vactrols!
Lowpass gates (LPG for short) are a classic principle from the early days of West Coast synthesis à la Buchla. They simultaneously reduce amplitude and harmonics and thus take over the tasks of VCAs and VCFs. A special feature of LPGs are the vactrols used, small components that make up one of the special features of an LPG thanks to a small (integrated) light bulb and a light-sensitive resistor. The resistance of the resistor decreases with the brightness of the light bulb, allowing the signal to pass through. The lamp is switched on by gates, triggers, envelopes or other signals and is given a natural decay as the lamp glows down.
Vactrols are now banned due to the cadmium they contain and Make Noise have now successfully designed a vactrol-free lowpass gate!
The DXG offers two stereo channels of lowpass fun! If you only have mono signals, that’s no problem, because the signal on the left input is normalized to the right if nothing is plugged in there. The Ctrl parameter simultaneously controls the amplitude and harmonic content of your sounds, giving them that organic LPG sound. Strike is a Make Noise tradition and sets the LPG in motion. Gates and triggers let you create pretty plucks and pings in no time.
The two channels can be tapped individually or as a sum and the AUX input allows multiple DXGs, Optomixes or similar to be chained together.
DXG is the evolution of the Make Noise Optomix and offers everything for a new Eurorack classic. Make Noise have worked hard to make the beloved LPG sound possible without the toxic cadmium and have succeeded with excellence!
